In October, 2018 The Department of Homeland Security proposed a rule that would expand the current public charge policy. These proposed changes would increase government ability to deny immigrants residency and visas if they or family members are receiving benefit from aid programs including medicare.
The IM4US policy committee wrote a letter in response to this, opposing the expansion.
Currently, the proposal is under a 60 day review period open for public comment, ending December, 10th. We encourage the IM4US community to support IM4US efforts to oppose Public Charge and comment publicly here.
