Unfortunately, fish is some of the most highly contaminated food on earth. This led Sandra Steingraber to recommend women eat no fish for a year before getting pregnant, while pregnant, or while breastfeeding.

Still, some fish are better than others. In general, eat smaller species - the larger predators will be more contaminated because of biomagnification.

Beware farmed fish - they have higher than usual levels of contaminants and are relatively lacking in the omega-3 fats, which most fish get from eating algae.
